Please help with Web Site Development

B

Bill

Could some please direct me to a good training book or training class/CD
that would help me come up to speed with developing a Web Site using
FrontPage 2002. I'm quite familiar with creating domain names and
publishing web pages, for I manage and Intranet Server at the company I work
for. But as a novice to web site design I'm in need of help.

Thanks in advance for your help with this matter.

I recommend you begin with HTML and CSS. After becoming comfortable with
those, FP will be simple to master....

I bought Front Page 2002, Inside / Out... from Microsoft Press. It's very
helpful, I use it as reference bbok but it goes step by step as well.

Personally, I feel it's a mistake to focus on the tool rather than the
technology....

Hi
This true Murray But not everyone wants to get into html coding like a web
professional such as yourself . Perhaps they only want to build a simple
website for themselves. That is what Frontpage as I understand was designed
to, build webs without learning the code stuff.

The depth to which one penetrates HTML & CSS is entirely up to them. My
personal opinion is that learning enough HTML/CSS to have a broad grasp of
FP's theater of action will help to dispel much of the mystery of FP,
without knowing much about FP. If you then want to focus on the tool, it
will make ever so much more sense with that under your belt....

What I was GOING to say before I clicked on "Post" prematurely is:

I've just been through the Microsoft Press Book entitled "FrontPage 2003
Step by Step" - - and it was a "just right" level of introduction to
FrontPage. Comes with a CD and plenty of pre-structured web sites to play
with off of your hard disk. The tutorials are easy to follow and go all the
way from the beginning to actually publishing a FrontPage site.

Since MS has pulled the plug on FrontPage, you should be able to find both
this book AND an upgrade to FrontPage 2003 pretty cheaply. I got mine off of
E-Bay. Regular commercial channels seem to have dried up pretty quickly.

Another good source might be the training cd-roms from Individual Software.
The "superset" offers 3 web design videos as well as basic FrontPage 2002
(or other versions) and advanced FP2002.

I have a listing that talks about "Things I wish I had known before I used
FrontPage" which includes "a little knowlege of html, so I can tweak the
table cells"......

A design book I really like is: "The non-designers web book" (2nd edition or
later) by Robin William and John Tollett. It goes straight to the heart of
laying out pages in several chapters. It has a lot of beginner internet
info that many won't need but the design stuff is pretty useful.

Thanks,
Tom Miller
