Please Help

I'm working on a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5, Mac OS X, V. 10.3.8. My Word
X for Mac will not save, and will not open when I click on the
documents themselves. Word will open from the dock, and from my hard
drive, but will not save anything. It looks as if it's trying. Last
night I downloaded Adobe Reader 7.0. Other Office products seem to be
working ok. I'm sure anyone reading this can understand that I'd like
to scream right now! Can anyone please, please help? With humble
appreciation, DeNel

Hi DeNel,

You imply that the problem just showed up and that the only change in your
system was the installation of Adobe Reader. Is that the case? If so, then
the two events are most likely connected. See this article:

<http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/Add-Ins.htm> (If using Safari, hit refresh
once or twice; better yet, use another browser.)

If this doesn't help, post back.

Hello Beth, and thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, that did not
work.

Yes, the only difference from using Word yesterday, and trying to use
it today, is the installation of Adobe Reader 7.0.

When I did what the help sheet you wrote said, I had no response from
Word. I looked inside the Word Startup folder. Inside it were only two
files: they were Endnote files. But I've been working fine with Endnote
in Word.

Please, do you have any other advice?

Thank you, DeNel

Hello Again, I should also mention that when I do start Word from the
dock, I can type but when I try to save, the program gets "hung up"
(the multi-coloured balls spins and spins).

Such consistent and reproducible problems in Word usually respond to one of
the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does, post
back. The most common culprits are a damaged preferences file or a damaged
Normal template, so you might want to start there.

Actually, start by repairing disk permissions, also listed at the link Daiya
posted.
