Please suggest the best hosting company

Bryan Bloom

I would appreciate a suggestion of the best hosting company for websites made
in Frontpage.

Thank you.

I have problems with my current provider as my site never seems to look the
way it does before I publish it.

Please explain the problems and provide a URL, as it may have nothing to do with your web host.

Thomas - our url is www.prioritymoving.com

We use Apollohosting www.apollohosting.com

The site was working fine. I made some minor changes to a few pages. When
I uploaded the site, all hell broke loose. You can see that the menu bar
doesn't look right, some of the pictures don't show up. The odd thing is
that in preview on the local server the site looks perfect.

When I load up the site, it seems like the server is much more sensative to
loading a file like Baker.gif where it is looking for baker.jif (lower case).
I have to manually go up to the server and change the file name to make it
work.

This is just one of the problems.

I am using frontpage to load the site up (non-ftp).

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanksl

The file name case is based on that fact that your site is hosted on a Unix/Linux server which are
case sensitive, whereas Windows is not. You need to make sure that all links and references to files
are in lowercase and without spaces, etc. This is not a hosting issue, just a OS issue.

Thanks Thomas. Here is another question. Everything used to work fine. Now
I have to go through the entire site again. What if I change to a hosting
company that is based on Windows not Unix, would that make my life easier in
the long run?

IMHO, Yes.

But is always a good idea to be consistent in your folder and file naming. Since I only work on
Windows IIS servers, I name pages in the following manner, ContactUs.htm, AboutUs.htm, etc.

I work on a Windows server, but as a just-in-case measure, I name pages as
contact_us.htm, about_us.htm, etc. But I would assume that your naming
system would also work on a case-sensitive server as long as the links had
the same case. Would there be a problem with that?

Yes, if users have to type any links, then they may not type it in the right case.

The problem with link that contain underlines, is that you can't see the underline when the link is
in a email, and for whatever reason the link is not clickable.

There is the Case Changer addin at www.jimco.com that will go through
the entire site changing all filenames to lowercase, along with any
links that point to those files.

You make a good point about underlines. I suppose a good workaround would be
hyphens. They seem to work okay.
