Plot area distorted when I copy Excel chart into Powerpoint

I am trying to embed an Excel chart into a Powerpoint slide. The
chart is an object located on an Excel worksheet and is sized (5.45" x
9.3") such that no scaling is required in Powerpoint. I have the
"lock aspect ratio" option turned on.

Whenever I embed the chart into Powerpoint (by using copy --> paste),
the size of the chart area is 5.45" x 9.3" (just like I want) but the
plot area of the chart is distorted so that it doesn't fill the entire
chart area. I can correct this issue by opening up the chart from
Powerpoint and expanding the plot area so it fills the entire chart
area. This is a hassle but more important is the fact that this issue
just started occuring. Until recently I had used the procedure
described above for many charts without any issues.

I do not have this issue when I paste the chart as a picture or as a
link. However, I have a need for embedded charts since I share these
slides with others in my department who want access to the data behind
the chart.

Any help that you could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

Mike

PS I am using Office 2000 SP-3 and Windows 2000.

I think I found a workaround to my issue. For all of my charts I had
been rotating the y-axis chart title 90 degrees (so the text is
horizontal) and moving it to the top of axis. I noticed that if use a
text box instead of a chart title the plot area doesn't compress when
I embed the chart into Powerpoint.
