PLS HELP! Error with embedded Excel object

D

dee

I need to e-mail a file that refers to Excel data. I have embedded the Excel
file as an Excel object that displays as icon. (No link to original file.)

I then copy data from the embedded Excel object and paste it with a link in
the Word file. This way, I can e-mail it and everything stays in one file.

However, when I try to update the data in the Excel object, it only updates
the linked Word tables for a short time. As soon as I close the embedded
Excel object, the link seems to disappear and I get an error message when I
try to update links.

Any idea or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi, Dee: I'm not making sense out of what you're saying. It sounds like
you're embedding it (which means the Excel file travels with Word as one
file) and then you're copying and pasting to make it one file? No need for
the 2nd step.

PERHAPS you need to copy the Excel data, open the Word document, insert a
workbook, paste, save and close? Not sure exactly what's happening for you
here.

Hi Anne,

Thanks for your response. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I need to display
tables of data that come from various parts of an Excel worksheet in a Word
document.

This document is sent to employees for their use and they may modify the
Excel tables according to their needs. No link to the original file is
required and I am trying to find a way to send one file - the Word document
with Excel worksheet embedded - instead of a Word file and a separate Excel
file.

I would like to embed the Excel file (as an icon) at the end of the Word
file, and then open the excel file, copy and paste with link various parts of
the Excel file in "tables" throughout the Word file. When I change the
source Excel (icon) object data, I would like the updates to reflect in the
tables throughout the Word file.

I hope this makes it more clear.
Thanks!

I also am having a problem embedding Excel spreadsheets into Word documents
and viewing spreadsheets previously embedded in files. I get the message {
EMBED.Excel.Sheet.8 }. This occurs on previous documents as well as if I
create a brand new document and try to embed. I have have uninstalled Office
2003 Professional and re-installed and continue to have the problem. Any
help??

thanks!

In Word 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck
the boxes for "All", "Hidden text", and "Field codes" | Print tab |
uncheck the boxes for "Hidden text" and "Field codes" | OK.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! I don't know how and when that was changed but
the Field Codes was checked. As soon as I unchecked it and went back to my
original document, everything was fine, including the TOC!! I am very
appreciative!!!! Have a fabulous day!!
