Pls Help - Project Server not connecting to Sharepoint Services

G

George Hanus

Sorry for this continuing saga, but I am getting no where after 6 days of
struggling. I am not sure what it wants to connect.

I have installaed Projectserver, Sharepoint Portal Server and Sharepoint
services.

When I open the PWA page under risks and issues is the error:
"There is a problem establishing a connection with the Web server running
Windows SharePoint Services. Contact your system administrator."

On the ADMIN / Connect to Sharepoint Server page the following entries:
SharePoint Central Administration URL:
http://servername:13739

Create a site under this SharePoint URL:
http://servername:8030/sites

http://servername:8030/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments

This last link does not work.
The project server page is at:
http://servername:8083/projectserver

Note the different port names.

I am not sure how to correct this.. was this a mistype or did :8030 get
entered automatically.

I have my company demo in a few hours and have no clue how to link this, or
correct this. So at present I am doomed for failure. I am not as familiar
with this part of Project but will be when I am done. I feel this install is
close. I just need to get over this hurdle.

I really appreciate your help in advance.

Did you install SP with the option for using HTTPS? or just plain http?
(looking at port numbers wondering if you did instal with https)

Hi thanks for the reply.

I used plain HTTP. the procedure recommended to add this port number so I
did.

I wil do what I need to, but only have 4 hours left. ... and I thought the
election was high stress.. haha <nervous laugh>

Would there be someone I can call? I am really up against the wire on this.
All I need to do is show that it works. I wish I even knew what I was doing
wrong but I am coming up dry on every different type of search I am trying.

Thanks,

G

Steven, thanks for the reply and suggestion. Yes I have tried this. This does
not work as well. I believe the problem revolves around the creation of the
projectserver site in the Project server installation. It asks to enter a
site name to connect to the Protal server. It is not clear to me what to
enter here. Would it be

http://servername:8030/sites (which was made during the install yet does not
work)

or

http://servername:8030/projectserver

or

http://servername (which is the location is the portal server iself).

Today I unistalled and reinstalled this softwre twice... and have followed
these instruictions to a tee.. I am convinced I am either dense, or this
recipe is missing an ingredient somewhere. I find this more convolluted than
an Exchange Server installation.

If there is anyone here that would care to shed light on what they presume
is a correct intallation path, I am open. I have used project for years, and
thought it would be a slick way to increase prodctivity for our company. I am
now deeply imbedded into a hole I do not see the way out. Why else am I
working at 10 pm?

Thanks in advance.

Hi George,

When you installed project server and sharepoint did you run the proxycfg
and pscomplus to set the values to by pass.

After extending sharepoint did you used project server CD to install
sharepoint template.

Let me know. If this does not help you. I can be reached at 301-365-7356
after 6.00 PM today (11/4/2004)

Thanks

Gaurav

Hi Gaurav, thank you for the reply.
yes I ran the complus, actually it came up automatically in the install,
and created its own username, I set the passwords.

After extending the Sharepoint, I did install the sharepoint template from
the CD. Project server came up... and seemed to work. I was able to load
project files to the enterprise, and view them. However, when attempting to
attach an Issue, or document to a project or task I get the message saying a
Sharepoint site needs to be created first.

I am in process of a complete reinstall and carefully following the
installation path.

What time zone are you in? And thank you for the offer.
