PMT pre-payment

I've been working with PMT and other functions for calculating a loan.

In my case, the loan has a fixed term and fixed interest rate.

Does anyone know how to factor in pre-payments?

Maybe it's best to reset all the parameters and start as if it's a new
loan after each pre-payment? Principal would be reduced and term would
have to be correspondingly shorter.

Any expert opinions?
