png image does not display in MS Word 2002

Hi -
I have a file with some .png images. On most installations, the images
appear. On one installation, the image does not appear. Any
suggestions on what I can change with the one installation of MS Office
that will make the png images appear?

The various options in Tools - Options are all the same. I also
verified the that the .png graphic filters were installed.

Thanks.

If you're absolutely certain that on the problem system that
Tools>Options>View [Drawings] is checked & [Picture Placeholders] isn't
checked, the next issue is whether that user is in Normal View. In Normal
View graphic objects do not display unless they are set to In Line with Text
instead of any other type of Text Wrapping. Make sure Word is in Print
Layout View or switch to Print Preview.

If that isn't the issue reply with as much additional detail as possible
including *What version of Word* & Windows, specs on the system, whether
there is a problem with graphics in other docs, etc.

Hi -
Thanks for your reply.

Drawings is checked, Picture Placeholders isn't. I also verified that
the user was in Print Layout.

Other info: Word 2002 SP3 - 10.6612.6626.. OS: Windows XP SP2

The problem is the same for all docs on this system.

One other observation: If I Right click in the image Area, I can see
the Alternate text (right click in the image area - select Format
Picture - Web - Alternative text).

If I then goto Tools - Options - General - Web Options - select Allow
PNG as a graphics format - OK. The image shows up.

The next PNG image still doesn't appear. However, if I go back to
"Allow PNG as a graphics format" and uncheck this option, this next
image then shows up.

If I then save the document with the images visible and then re-open
it, the images aren't visible and I only see the Alternate Text.

Very strange.

I'm not sure what to tell you... The points you make re "Allow PNG..." &
Alternative Text have nothing to do with regular docs. Those settings only
pertain to docs saved as web pages & determine Browser compatibility - older
browsers don't display PNG & Alternative Text is used in that case as well
as to provide accessibility display for users who have vision problems &
have their browsers set accordingly.

Have you tried backing down the Hardware Acceleration (Display Control
Panel, Settings - Advanced - Troubleshoot? Set it back a few stops. If that
alleviates the problem contact the display adapter mfr for a driver update.

Hi -
Changing the HW acceleration fixed the problem. We moved the slide bar
to the middle and everything is working as expected. I'm not sure why
this was working before and then stopped working. We haven't changed
the setting recently.

Anyways - thanks for your help!!!
