PNG's degrade as I design

In Pub2003, my imported PNG images eventually lose focus
when previewed in OE6.1. (I'm careful not to overlap
objects, apply borders, resize or alter the images - and
they do NOT become GIFs.) Re-installing the original image
corrects the problem for awhile, but it soon reappears.
Constantly importing "new" replacement images gets to be a
drag. (To summarize: All I'm doing is wordsmithing text
within text boxes that never touch the images, so why do
my PNGs eventually go bad in webpage preview?) Is it
possible that a JPEG version of my PNG is created, then
used by my preview browser, and then it just gets degraded
with repeated openings and closings of Pub 2003?

PNG files are the greatest and have no issues whatsoever.

.I understand PNG's never degrade. It's just that I'm
afraid Pub2003 is creating JPEGs of them (without my
knowledge) and that those JPEGs are getting picked up for
display in my browser preview - a process that degrades
them after several iterations. Probably only David
knows ;-)
