Word 2007 (using Vista Home Premium) fails to open Pocket Word Documents
(*.psw files). This is the error message Word 2007 displays:
"Word cannot start the converter pwiofcnv.dll."
Word 2003 (and probably previous versions, using Windows XP) used to open
the .psw Pocket Word Document files with no problem.
I could not find anything in Microsoft addressing the issue. Does anyone
know where to find and, or, has been able to install the pwiofcnv.dll?
I was able, however, to find the following work-around solution to the
problem: when using Pocket Word with the mobile device, save the file as a
"Word 97/2000 Document (*.doc)" and NOT as a "Pocket Word Document (*.psw)."
This worked perfectly.
There are two problems that come to mind with this approach: (a) having to
open all the *.psw files in the mobile device to re-save them as a *.doc file
and, (b), the memory required to handle the *.doc files increases.
