Pointer does not behave properly in Page Layout

R

Robin

I am running Office v.X on a G4 iMac and a G3 iBook (dual USB). On
the iMac, the pointer style remains a "northwest"-pointing arrow,
regardless of where I am on the page or what settings I enter in the
Preferences. However, on my iBook, the pointer changes style as it
should (e.g., to a "northeast"-pointing arrow when within the left
margin of a document in Page Layout). Does anyone know how I can
correct the behavior on my iMac? It seems like a trivial thing, I
know, but I am curious as to whether there are some settings somewhere
that I am not aware of.
Robin.

Thanks for getting back to me, Beth. I actually did most of those
things already though, to no effect. I also created a new account and
logged in under that new username and saw the same behavior, so I
guess it must either be a system setting somewhere that overrides the
application, or something in the application files (or pkg contents?)
that might have been set when I first started up Word after
installing. I might end up just reinstalling office (and the myriad
updates), but I've become curious as to where this quirk is hiding,
and your suggestions gave me another idea: since I have an identical
installation (running under the same System 10.3.4) on my iBook that
seems to behave properly, I might try a series of "transplants" of
various Office components from the iBook to the iMac. Do you know of
any reason why this might be a BAD idea?
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin,

You're talking about "transplanting" from the good installation to the bad
one, right? If that's the case, I don't see how it could hurt anything, but
it might not help either. If you do decide to try this, please post back if
you nail down the source of the quirk; it might help someone else in the
future. If it doesn't work and the quirk continues to bother you, I'd
suggest doing a full uninstall and reinstall of Office. You'll find that
procedure also at the link I pointed you to earlier.

Good luck!
