I'd find it hard to believe that this hasn't been asked in the past... so I
apologize if I’m re-asking.
Word 2007: Simply put, the formatting of Excel tables in word seems to be
quite poor. I've done so from within Word (Insert>Table>Excel Spreadsheet)
as well as past special Link out of a separate workbook.
The most noticeable formatting error is that gaps between letters is off...
sometimes by a lot making words look stretched or squished. It severely
limits what would otherwise be a very useful feature in my opinion.
In general, the only method I have found for precisely replicating
formatting of an Excel table in Word is to past special Enhanced Metafile...
which cannot be done as a link.
Now I know you can create a normal table and LINK to individual Excel cells.
But this method seems troublesome as the link references are absolute and
thus fragile. Also, it would be very cumbersome if you had a large number of
tables and fields.
Any questions or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
