Pop Up Forms Linking to Main Form for Data Entry and Update

I have two main forms to which I would like to use one pop-form (moving from
using subform as it is too busy) that open by a command button (really a
coded label). I would only like to use the one pop up form I have for both
the new entry and view main forms. Can I use one pop form or do I need two
duplicate forms one as data entry (first record) and other to view/add new
records? How do I have pop up show records and/or populate similar to the
singular subform I use now that gets key field from main form?

Note: linking field is text
