I can’t get POP3 mail to send or receive on a XP Professional SP2 home
machine running Office Professional Plus 2007. I know the problem - just not
the fix. For reasons unknown, the client will not send the actual POP3
password for the specific user account to the mail server. A Wireshark
network trace shows a normal POP connection taking place (TCP handshake,
AUTH, USER, PASS, etc.) When the client sends the POP3 "PASS" command it
does not included the actual password.
I have recreated the mail profile numerous times – and the password is never
sent. I have tried a fresh Office re-install, removed Symantec NAV, removed
the Outlook add-ons via Safe mode and deleted the user specific password
protected storage Registry Key – as suggested in another article.
Any suggestions or help would be most appreciative. Thanks!
