Pop3 password won't stick

Outlook keeps asking me for a password everytime I check
for mail on my pop3 account despite the fact that I check
the box that says "Remember password" I used to have
this problem on Window 95 when the .pwl file would get
corrupt but never on XP. I am running office 2000 in the
corporate mode.
