POP3 & SMTP

Hi Everyone,

I am currently using Outlook 2000 as my default mail application. My question is: Is there some way I can get the names of the POP3 & SMTP Mail Servers from Yahoo and Hotmail so that I can setup my Outlook server information to pull my emails from these servers into my Outlook? I currently run this scenario with another email provider whose POP3 & SMTP server address I know, eg. pop.whatever.com.

Assuming you have paid for an account thru Yahoo, try:

pop.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.yahoo.com

As far as I know, Hotmail doesn't offer POP3/SMTP service. It is just a
HTTP type of an account. (You would need to use Outlook Express or Upgrade
to connect via HTTP or go with a 3rd party product.)

Thanks for your reply. I have the free version of Yahoo so those pop and smtp accounts wouldn't work for me. Is there an email provider that is free that you know of that will provide this information? And what are the third party products that will pull in my emails into Outlook for me?

POP3Hot is the only 3rd party utility that might help get hotmail into
Outlook 2000.

Hi! "Sam" ,
I do not know about Outlook2000 nor Yahoo,
but as far as Hotmail with Outlook2003 is concerned,
you can pull your emails from your current hotmail server into your
Outlook2003.
Tools | E-mail Accounts | Add a new-email account | HTTP
( Hotmail account of Outlook2003 is similar to that of OutlookExpress6)
(Not pop3 nor smtp, but HTTP.)

Hotmail doesn't have SMTP & POP3 servers available and Yahoo only offers
them with a paid account. There is an addin (YPOPs?) that might work though.

I know these were posted a few months ago, but as of a couple of months prior
to THIS post, yahoo accounts can be "popped" without having to subscribe to
the premium service, and without having to install third party software, even
though yahoo still says it doesn't do it in some parts of their website.

Here's what to do: make sure you're using mail beta, go to options and
there's a section for mail in the left-hand pane. Click here and there will
be a list of mail options, including POP access and forwarding. Click on
this, then select the option to allow POP access and save. Now when you run
Outlook or another client just set up a new email account and it should
autodetect the server settings. If it doesn't contact Yahoo customer support
and they should give you alternative ports if they clash with your existing
email account (sometimes it helps to change the smtp from 25 to 587). There
are also instructions on the yahoo site somewhere (I can't remember where
though )

This might be old news, but I thought I would have to upgrade to mail plus
to pop the account until I tried it. There's also a program that configures
all your pop accounts, called FreePOPS, but it takes some mucking around to
get it going.

Not for the US-based yahoo.com. When you click "POP & Forwarding" you get
