Portfolio Modeler

Does anyone understand the portfolio analyzer? I see it has uses for general
resource allocation information, but you can only see resource allocation for
a selected projects even if you have multiple projects in your model. I am
looking to see resource allocation across all projects to ensure we are not
overallocating our resources. I think creating a OLAP cube and using
portfolio analyzer might do the trick, but it is server intense and does not
show up-to-date information as far as I understand. Any suggestions on how I
might review resource allocation across all projects?

The Portfolio Modeler tool is probably the most useless tool that Microsoft
built into Project Server. Therefore, in your situation I would recommend
you use a Portfolio Analyzer view for your resource allocation reporting
across all projects. Here's how to build a Portfolio Analyzer view that
might help you:

1. Create a new Portfolio Analyzer view, then give it a name and
description
2. Drag the Resources dimension to the Row fields drop area
3. Drag the Project dimension to the Row fields drop area, but to the right
of the Resources dimension
4. Drag the Time dimension to the Column fields drop area
5. Drag the Work total to the Totals drop area
6. Set the Default View Settings as you desire
7. Include this new View in one or more Categories
8. Click the Save Changes button

Study this new View and perhaps it will help you to meet your reporting
needs. Hope this helps.l
