Portfolio Newbie

Hi Guys..
I am asked to install Portfolio for a freind. I am not sure if that's what
he really wants.

What is Portfolio anyway? What does it do exactle? any live examples?

Can I just install it using the deployment guide? Is Ms Project goinf to be
the client?

Do I need Project server installed or can I just go ahead with Portfolio?

Unfortunately the main site isnt much helpful here..

Basically, Portfolio Server helps organisations to make strategic decisions
about which investments (programs/projects/applications) they should make
given known constraints such as finances and resources. The product guide
will give you a complete breakdown.

The tool is purely web based. The installation is the simple part. The
configuration, process implementation and methodology mapping, reports,
etc... are what take the time and required discipline to make PPS a success.

The technical aspect of the deployment is about 1% of the effort required.
If you're serious about helping your friend, then don't install this tool and
contact a certified EPM partner to give him/her some guidance.
