Portfolio Server - Load Constraints from Attributes

I am not sure if there is where I should post this. If there is a more
appropriate site, please let me know. I am trying to do some
selection/analysis of projects that I have entered into PPS. The
documentation states that after having established the business driver
priorities and having determined the priorities for projects based on that, a
"Load Constraints from Attributes" dialog should open. I do not get this
dialog so I can not add constraints to the selection process. What am I doing
wrong or what have I not set correctly? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi MAS,

so you are trying to analyse your projects within the optimizer. This is
essentially a wizard that you are going through. 2 questions: after the
projects are prioritiest, do you actually push the next button, and if so,
what exactly do you see?

Aslo have you set up any optimiser attributes?
Thanks

Thank you for your help.
I am stepping through the process using next. I use an existing matrix for
the driver comparison. Then I click next and it shows me the priorities for
each driver. Then I click next again and it shows me how each project
supports the drivers. Then I click next and I get the Projects with a
priority percent. When I click next this time I get a message saying that
"there are no attributes to use as constraints". From the documentation that
I have found, it looks like I should get a dialog box of all the attributes
that I can choose from. I never see this dialog box. I think that's the
problem because I can't set any optimizer attributes.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi MAS,

In order to use Attributes you will need to set the Attributes up.
Attributes are essentially fields you enter or fields you calculate from
other fields etc. As part of the Portfolio Server configuration it is
required to set up Attributes, which need to be chosen for either the
Builder, Optimiser, Dashboard etc.

By the sounds of it, you have not set up these Attributes. What I would
recommend is a general Portfolio Server Training. Not all funcitons are
necesarrily intuitive and you can become frustrated quickly if you dont know
where to look and what to do. You may want to check out the EPMU, which
offers training in Portfolio Server too.
Hope this helps

Marc,
Thank you for the help. You are correct about the problem and the intuituve
part. I would also add that the documentation leaves a bit to be desired. I
was thinking that core data like actual hours, planned hours, benefits, etc
would come over as dimensions and the definition would only be needed what
you wanted to create a new measure like dividing a benefit by a risk score. I
was wrong. I now have it working. Thank you very much for your help.
