portion of page greyed

was sent a document in docx format which i converted to doc.
it had a section of type in gray. (instead of in black).
i was unable to select the type. i was unable to copy the section of page
that the type was on (it was just regular typing)
when i clicked on the type it moved down OFF the page, leaving just a little
portion of it behind.

what would cause this behavior in a section of a document? my friend doesn't
know what she did!(and doesn;t want to do it again!)

It sounds like it might be text in a text box, and the text box is located
in the drawing layer or in the header/footer layer.

If it's in the drawing layer, you should be able to select it by clicking on
the Select Objects tool, and then clicking on the object.

If it's in the header/footer layer, you should be able to select it by
editing the header or footer, and then clicking on the object (depending on
where it is, you might then need to click on the Select Objects Tool first).

If you're using Word 2007, the Select Objects tool is in the Home tab, at
the far right end... click Select - Select Objects. In Word 2003, it's
located in the Drawing toolbar.
