Possible ? Different Assignment Owner for Same Material resource

Wasonamit

We are trying to assign a material resource desktop which will be deployed at
4 different sites by 4 different enterprise resources.

If I have not assigned a Default assignment Owner in Resource Center project
makes the PM as the assignment owner.

But if I try to change the assignment owner by double clicking the task and
then under resources for the two different task it changes it back to the PM.

We want to assign a Task
Deploy Desktop @ Site1 to DESKTOP
Deploy Desktop @ Site2 to DESKTOP

but want to assign different resources so they can update the different task
via PWA.

BTW we are using EPM 2007

Material resources are intended for items which are measured by volume ie
concrete, soil, cable etc

The work resources will be delivering the effort, so what are you
tracking/measuring with the Desktop material resource?

Paul,

Our IT Staff at different sites will be deploying PCs in this project.

With their actual hours we also want to track how many PCs they have
deployed.

I have been able to assign Joe Smith ( IT Guy at a site) to a task as well
as a Material resource Desktop to the same task ( In resource center I made
Joe Smith as the assignment owner of this resource) which allows him to
report back the number of PCs he installed via PWA.

But what we end up doing is creating different Material resources

Desktop @ Site1
Desktop@ site2

What I was wondering is it possible to change the assignment owner of the
enterprise material resource from within a Project

Then I would just create one material resource Desktop and will change the
assignment owner on the basis of the task it is assigned to.

Hi,

I had a similar issue and was told to insert the Assignment Owner column
into Project and change the owner there and then publish. You may have to
change how you have the tasks written to achieve the outcome you are looking
for but it seemed to work for us.

Wasonamit:

You can assign a "default assignment owner" but this simply means that for
each task that the resource is assigned to, it defaults to that value. These
values are actually set at the task level in the system so you can set these
by task, by inserting the column in a task view.
