hello everyone,
i stumbled upon this while updating a friend's 2000 premium needing sr-1
update. as others have discovered, the system asked for the cd, '2000 sr1
premium' which i inserted, but would not recognize the file. i tried double
clicking office 2000 in add/remove software and tried both repair and
reinstall, neither of which could get past the cd. i then saw on the left
side of the entry for office 2000 a link 'click here for support information'
which i clicked. it opened a window listing the info for this version of
office but also had a part at the bottom that said 'If this program is not
working properly you may reinstall it by clicking Repair.' with a Repair
button next to it. Now, i don't know what the difference is between this
repair and the one the windows installer gives you, but i was able to use
this new one to reinstall office then the system had no problem finding my
data1.msi file on the cd. sorry about the long winded explanation but i'm
trying to make it clear for any novices.
