Possible to Change Existing Forms

Probably a dumb question, but:

I am trying to add a new field to the standard task form. However, when I
go to design the form, the field chooser does not pop up when the first
(default) tab is active. Nor can I cut and paste fields from subsequent
(designable) tabs and paste them in the default form. Am I missing
something, or do I need to redesign the entire form on another tab? I'm
sorry, I just thought it would be much easier to add a field. Yet it is
stumping me.

Hi Tom

Not something I've been delving into but if you have a look at
http://www.outlookcode.com/d/taskform.htm

You will see it is not possible to change the first page of a standard
task form.

Your fear is realised, hide the first tab and redesign the thing on
another tab

I actually tried this method as well. Unfortunately, I encounter a
problem where the fields inherent to task forms behave differently when
placed on another tab than they do when using the default tab. An
example would be the date field, in which you must manually write in the
date (when using another tab) vice having a popup calendar to pick the
date from (on the default tab). There are other fields for which I
encounter similar problems, but this is a good example. Any thoughts on
how to overcome these problems?

Outlook itself does not include any date picker control (which, by the way, is one reason why the first page of the appointment, journal, and task forms is not editable). See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/datepick.htm for controls you can add.
