Possible VB Library incompatibility Issue

Gary

I have developed an MDE database using Access 2000 SP 1A. Don't remember the JET SP ? but its not SP8. I am using win 2k O

The MDE database is running on XP OS with Access 2002 (or XP) and Access 2003. I don't know if the installation of the newer Access (i.e. 2002 and 2003) updated their JET or not. My MDE is running

I currently have a problem with a notebook which has Win 98 v2 OS with Access 2000. The MDE starts and depending on what I do in the problem, I set various error messages. Some of the errors are as follow

1) A Folder or Database is Read-Onl
I made sure they are all read/write or Read-only removed

2) "The Microsoft Jet database Engine could not find object" and it was a filename I pass to the problem

Someone suggestion that the JETS are incompatible from what I built the MDE with and what they are running?

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Hi Gary,

The Microsoft JET Database Engine is not updated via the install of Office
products. To update the version of JET see: How To: Obtain the Latest
Service Pack for the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;239114

To compare the version of the JET Engine on each machine take a look at the
version number of the file "MsJet40.dll". The latest version is 4.0.8015.0
(sp8).

There are cases but very uncommon (RARE) cases where the same version of
the JET Engine behaves differently on WinXP versus Win2k versus Win9x
machines.

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Hi Gary,

It's preferred to have the latest version of JET installed. As far as
using different versions of JET think of it this way:

Computer 1: has JET 4.0 sp5
Computer 2: has JET 4.0 sp6
Computer 3: has JET 4.0 sp7
Computer 4: has JET 4.0 sp8

All are using the same MDB/MDE file. Each of the above users report back
differing results. Also pretend for a moment that the MDB/MDE file is in a
shared folder that they are all accessing. In addition to the differing
results now your MDB/MDE file is experiencing corruption as a result of the
different versions of JET hitting the file.

Now for another scenario; again this is very RARE:

Computer 1 -- WinXP: has JET 4.0 sp8
Computer 2 -- Win2000: has JET 4.0 sp8
Computer 3 -- WinME: has JET 4.0 sp8
Computer 4 -- Win98: has JET 4.0 sp8

All of the above the JET Engine behaves differently.

What I would recommend you do is to install the latest version of JET on
your developer machine. Take your original MDB file and Compact/Repair it,
then create a new MDE file.
