Post SP1: Custom fields sync is broken

N

Nicky Ang

I have an enterprise custom text field and entered some values in it.

Before SP1, the value is sync with "My Tasks" when I publish the project
file. Users who login to Project Web Access > My Tasks can see the value in
that custom field.

After SP1, the custom field in My Tasks is always empty. Nevertheless, the
custom field value is still present in MS Project.

Is the custom field sync broken in SP1?

Hi Gary,

Glad to hear that your systems do not have this behaviour.

Here it goes:

1. Go to PWA > Server Settings > Enterprise Custom Field Definition > New
Field. Enter as follows:

Name: Project Code
Entity=Task
Type=Text
Custom attributes=None
Calculation for Summary/Assignment rows=None
Values to display=Data
Required=Yes

2. Open MS Project Professional 2007, open an existing project file as
Read/Write.

3. Under Gantt Chart view > Insert a new column "Project Code (Enterprise)"

4. Since this field cannot be blank, enter some values for all the rows.

5. Save and Publish the project file.

6. Go back to PWA > Server Settings > Manage Views.

7. Under My Work > My Assignments > click on this to open the view definition.

8. Add "Project Code [Task]" column to "Displayed fields". Press Save.

9. Now, go to My Tasks to see your own tasks. Notice the "Project Code"
field is blank for all tasks.

Nicky--

We had a similar issue and launched a ticket to MSFT about this--first they
told us it was not possible, then we pushed for a better answer and it turns
out there is a settings change needed (this is from our post --see posts from
12/21 relating to My Tasks):
The answer eventually came as a setting. If you want the enterprise fields
you input at the tasks level to be "pushed" to the assignment level then go
toSERVER SETTINGS-->ENTERPRISE CUSTOM FIELD DEFINITION-->(SELECT FIELD) then --> EDIT CUSTOM FIELD, find the "Calculation for Assignment Rows", and select
"Roll Down". Additionally, you must publish all schedules to have this data appear (even if they have previously been published, unfortunately).

Try this setting change and see what results from a test with one project.
It fixed our very similar issue.

Best of luck.

Hi db,

Thanks for your reply. I tested this setting change and it works!

We'll continue to test out all other features before we rollout SP1 to our
production servers.

Once again, thank you very much!

When tasks are first published the custom field is visible on My Task
page, however the problem I am seeing is that after the first round of
updates the custom value disappears from My Task page. Does anyone
else have ths same experience?

If you open the project using the Project client and publish, the indicator
should reappear. I don't think this problem is solved in SP1.

Hi Gary

Defining a custom task field which rolls down to the assignment level
will show the inserted value when published for the first time in both
My Task and Timesheet views. After updating via My Task page,
approving and republishing, the custom field value no longer displays
on My Task page (for the updated task) or appears in any new
timesheet.

Hi Mauro

After infrstructure update behaviour has changed so no longer blank
value, but there is a disconnect between contents on My Task page and
MSP, so I would avoid displaying this data.
