Power Point files from PC to my new MacBook-Office 2008

Most of the e-mail attachments I receive open with no problem.
Four very important files would not open and I got the following dialogue:

"PowerPoint cannot open the file (name of file.) The file may be corrupt, in use, not a type recognized by PowerPoint, or the file extension may not match the internal format of the file."

I had the sender rename the files but I got the same dialogue. I've had no trouble so far opening Word file attachments from PC users in Word 2008. Really hoping you can help me. I must use these files immediately for an upcoming presentation. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Sadly, I think you might be stuck.

If you have a copy of KeyNote available, try that.

But I think they have sent you a PPT containing artefacts that PowerPoint
2008 cannot handle.

Make sure you are saving the file to your hard disk before you attempt to
open it. Make sure that the file has the appropriate extension ‹ either
..ppt or .pptx, depending on what they used to create it.

Make sure that your email program or browser did not add an extra extension
to the name of the file.

Make sure that when you saved the file, it was NOT "unzipped". If it was,
PowerPoint can't read it.

Try starting PowerPoint, then using File>Open from the menu to force an
open.

But the bottom line is that Windows PowerPoint can include artefacts in a
file that PowerPoint 2008 can't read. If you get one in the wrong part of
the file, it won't open it.

Sorry...
