Power Point for Mac 2004

Hi all,

When I purchased Office 2004 I expected a few bugs. Has anyone
experienced the following? PP will not rapidly respond to manual
commands from the mouse especially at transitions (it takes minutes
for it to respond if at all). The interface with Word documents
frequently causes the program to crash (word table inserted in a PP
presentation). When using the previous version X (any document opened
in 2004 has fonts that were not created in 2004). The same problem has
occured on several machines so ... I think it's in the first version
of the program.

In order to help with troubleshooting problems it is often helpful to
include hardware information, especially if it involves speed problems.

If you could reply with this information it might help diagnose the problem
with the transitions: What processor and OS does your computer have? How
much video RAM do you have? What video card do you have? Is the problem
with all transitions or just one or two?

There are many ways to get tables from Word into PowerPoint. It would help
troubleshooting if you post the exact steps you took. Did you use copy? Cut?
Paste? Paste Special? Add to Scrapbook? Drag & Drop? Is it just one table in
particular causing trouble or all tables?

Have you taken any regular maintenance steps? Did you use Disk Utility to
Repair Permissions after installing Office 2004?

Did you have Office X installed on the same computer? Did you have it
previously? Did you uninstall it? How?

I would love to offer suggestions, but there are two many unknowns to know
where to begin. For the transitions and table problems.

The font problem is probably easy to fix, though. Office 2004 comes with
some new fonts with full UniCode support. The compatibility checker should
let you know whether or not the fonts you have selected will cause problems
with earlier versions. But even if it doesn't you can change the font that
PowerPoint uses as the default to an older type font.

In your case you simply need to change the font to one that works well for
you in older versions then save the default template.

You are not limited to having just one template. PowerPoint's help file
topic "Create a design template" explains how to create and save templates
so that they appear in the Project Gallery. You can have as many different
templates as you want. You can also download lots and lots of free templates
from the internet and they will also appear in the project gallery if you
put the .pot files into the appropriate folders in the Templates folder.

IM NOT SURE HOW TO RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION SINCE I DO NOT KNOW WHERE
TO LOCATE THE INFORMATION

EVEN WHEN TRANSITIONS ARE REMOVED, THE PROGRAM DOES NOT MOVE FROM
SLIDE TO SLIDE ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS A WORD EMBEDDED DOCUMENT IN THE
SLIDE

THE PARTICULAR DOCUMENT WAS PASTED INTO THE SLIDE SHOW. I AM NOT
CERTAIN ON THE STEPS.

NO. I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS KIND OF MAINTENANCE.

OFFICE X IS CURRENTLY INSTALLED ON THE COMPUTERS (THREE MACS WITH THE
SAME MEMORY, SYSTEM, ETC HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM

Thanks for responding with the details. Sometimes people give up and don't
reply.

You can find out how much video RAM your computer has by clicking the Apple
in the upper left corner. Choose About This Mac. Then click the More Info
button. In the report that's generated you'll find the information about how
much video RAM the computer has.

The info you provided indicates your computer has plenty of speed and RAM to
handle PowerPoint. We can rule out your hardware as a source of the
slowdown.

I am thinking that there could be some incompatibility with Office X and
2004. In particular, each version has its own "daemons." Is there any
reason in particular you want too keep Office X installed?
