Power Point Pack and Go

P

Paul Beck

Under the file menu of Power Point there is an
option "Pack and Go" which allows you to put the
presentation on a CD-R or CD-RW. My problem is it will
only allow me to pack it on the "A" drive or the "G"
drive. My CD-RW drive is "E" on my PC. I assume the "G"
is a default setting and I can't determine how to change
the drive to "E". Can anyone help me???

Pack and go to your Hard Drive, then copy all the created files to your CD

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hi Paul,

|
| Under the file menu of Power Point there is an
| option "Pack and Go" which allows you to put the
| presentation on a CD-R or CD-RW.

Pack and Go is not intended for distributing presentations by CD-R/RW.
Instead it is intended as a way to copy a presentation and it's supporting
files from one computer hard disk to another computers hard disk using
either a stack of floppy disks or a shared (network) location. However, by
understanding how Pack and Go does work, you can also store a presentation
and it's supporting files on a CD-R/RW by doing the following:

If your intention is to run the presentation directly from the CD-R/RW:

1) Use "Pack and Go" to pack your files to a location on your hard-drive
(don't forget where you told it to put the files) and don't choose option
to include the Viewer.
2) In Windows Explorer, create an empty folder (don't forget where it is)
3) In Windows Explorer, go to the location specified in Pack and Go and run
"PNGSETUP.EXE" from that location (it will automatically locate and try to
unpack the presentation package that was created in step 1)
4) Specify that the files should be unpacked to the empty folder created in
Step 2.
5) Using whatever CD burning software you have, you can now burn/copy the
contents of the folder created in Step 2 to your CD-R/RW disc.
6) Insert the CD in the other computer and open the presentation on the CD
(NOTE: PowerPoint or the PowerPoint Viewer must already be install on the
hard drive of the computer in order to open/view the presentation contained
on the CD).

If your intention is to simply move the presentation to another computer
using CD-R\RW (not run from CD):

1) Use "Pack and Go" to pack your files to a location on your hard-drive
(don't forget where you told it to put the files).
2) Using whatever CD burning software you have, burn/copy the two files
created by Pack and Go (PNGSETUP.EXE and pres0.ppz) to your CD-R/RW disc.
3) Insert the CD in the other computer
4) In Windows Explorer, create an empty folder on the hard drive (don't
forget where it is)
5) Run "PNGSETUP.EXE" from the CD (it will automatically locate and try to
unpack the presentation package "pres0.ppz")
6) Specify that the files should be unpacked to the empty folder created in
Step 2.

NOTE: This is not an auto-running disk since the PowerPoint Viewer provided
with Pack and Go does not support running directly from a removable disc
and, instead, must be installed on a persons hard-disk.

If/when you decide to upgrade to PowerPoint 2003 you'll be glad to know
that burning presentations to CD-R/RW and creating auto-running CD-based
presentations is MUCH easier with a new feature called "Package for CD"
(which replaces Pack and Go).
