Power Point slow startup

After starting power point the initial screen comes up.
However before the next screen (almost 1 minute passes).
During this time menu's are grayed out and clicking any
where on power point does nothing. I have not seen this
before.
This particular cpu has W2k, office 2000 updated Service
Packs.

Are you on a network or have you been in the past?

Once it starts up, start a new file, just one blank slide, then save it to
the local hard drive as test1.ppt

Then save it again 8 more times, as test2, test3 .... test9

Then quit and restart PowerPoint. Does that help?
