Power point to HTML problems - consolidated re-post

Background: I'm developing a multimedia training application (VS 2003,
VB.NET) that uses content developed in PPT then converted to HTML
(linked movies (wmv) and embedded sounds (wav)). The original PPTs that
I'm having problems with have custom animations; all are on mouse click:
play a movie or sound. I have no problems playing the movies or sounds
through PPT (on my development machine or on my clients' machines) - so
I know I don't have any configuratrion and set-up issues with MSI,
codecs, etc.

Problem 1: Movies and sounds do not respond to mouse clicks
(custom animations) to start play when opening HTML in IE 6+.
When saving my PPTs as HTML, I ensure that the "Show slide animations
while browsing" checkbox is checked. Curiously though, when I open the
same saved HTML slides in my application (which uses a WebBrowser
control), the animations fire correctly and everything
seems great. This greatly puzzles me - any idea why I can't get the
custom animations to work through IE but can through an application that
uses a Web Browser control? I'm really just fishing for an answer to the
first question; I don't expect you to debug my application for me! This
brings me to my next problem...

Problem 2: After burring the HTML to CD, the movies and sounds
still do not respond to mouse clicks (custom animations) to start play
when opening HTML in IE 6+, nor will the animations work (i.e. play the
sound or movie) in my application. I followed the directions laid out on
this page, http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm, to try and
ensure that my links external files (movies and sounds) were all
relative. Again, the HTML seems to be correct on my machine b/c my
application can open it and the animations work fine - but when I take
the HTML to another machine, no animations work. Are there any issues
that can crop up with moving HTML from one location to another?
<!--*** Update on the this - I partially figured this one out - In IE, goto
Tools | Internet Options, select the Advanced tab, scroll down to the
multi-media section, ensure that the "play <x> in web pages", where x in
{animations, sounsd videos}, checkboxs aer checked. This change allowed my
application to see the HTML animations but still I'm unable to get the
snimations to work directly through IE ***-->

Problem #3: Ok, my problem #2 description was not completely accurate...
the "other" machine I am testing is one of clients' laptops. They have
limited software installed - so when I open, through my application or
the IE browser, the converted to HTML slides, I am always prompted to
install the Microsoft Office Animation Runtime (msorun.exe). It's a
forgone conclusion that I must have this installed on the client
machines. But, interestingly, if I cancel out of the "Install
msorun.exe" prompt, the movie (not the sound) will at least play on the
first mouse click but not response to other mouse clicks. Then after
installing the msorun.exe, the movies cease to even play at all. The
sounds don't play in either case. Any idea why installing msorun.exe is
hampering my ability to have the custom animations fire off?
<!--**** My comment on #2 above resolves this problem ***-->

Problem 4: Embedded sounds don't play when I move the HTML to
another location (i.e. burn to disk). I thought that embedded sounds
would be exempt from any path location changes? Any ideas here? FYI, the
embedded wav file is 27k, being "inserted" from the Clip Organizer and
the "Link sounds with file size greater than" option is set to 100k.

If you have any pointers to other information or have any
experience/knowledge with these problems I'm all ears.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Hi,

We've been using this, which seems to do the job nicely;

www.podia.net

It allows you to combine video/audio, powerpoint (and other stuff like jpg's
etc), publish them to the web, then track usage, control access etc etc.

Take a look

Hope this helps,

Vic.
