I just added new slides to my a PPpresentation, saved tham, and now I can't shut down. The three little ovals come up in a box with no words in them. The right hand one is blue. I click it and it just moves down to the center of the screen. Shoule I do a forced shut down or what?

It would be better not to Force Quit unless you have to... Try pressing the
ESC key to see if the dialog box goes away. If it does, then use File> Save
to save you work, use File> Close to close the file, the either File> Quit or
Command+Q to quit the program. Reply with your results if you continue to
have a problem.

I did all the things you suggested. It
still wouldn't shut down and there are what look like Japanese symbols in all the ovals!

Thank you.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, but it sounds like there is a deeper
problem to address. Let's approach it from the top...

First, make sure you have Office fully up-to-date - 12.1.5 is the current
build. If you aren't absolutely sure go to the PowerPoint Menu & select
About PowerPoint (or in any of the Office apps). If the version isn't
indicated as 12.1.5 you need to run Help> Check for Updates.

Also, make sure OS X is fully updated - 10.4.11 is the current version of
Tiger. Apple Menu> About This Mac will verify your current version. If you
aren't at that level I'd suggest you go to the Apple Downloads site & get
the 10.4.11 Combo Update - this link will point you in that direction:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

Additionally - regardless of whether you have to apply any updates - run
Disk Utility Repair Disk Permissions [which you'll find in your
Applications/Utilities folder]. Restart your Mac afterwards.

Post back with details if you have any further problems.
