PowerPoint 2000/2003 incompatibility

I receive presentations created in PPT2000, and open them in PPT2003. Some
slides have additional text appearing. For example the first character on
some bullet points is repeated when viewed in PPT2003, viz
3 3 HOURS Minimum time for Mediation
WWritten Agreement. If Mediation succeeds a written agreement will be
entered into by all parties and the matter proceeds no further.
WWritten agreement may be made into an order.

I have the latest PPT 2003 updates installed. O/S is XP Pro.

Any ideas?

I'm guessing that this is related to a font problem

I'm thinking that the bullet points (1st level, 2nd level etc) are using a
font that is not on your computer

That would be one reason why the font appears to have changed from a nice
bullet character to a 3 or a W

If you open the presentation

then File menu > properties > contents > it should list the fonts that are
used within the presentation

then make sure you actually have those fonts installed on your computer

One quick way is to try changing the font, in any text box on a slide, using
the "drop down" font selector

if there is a TT symbol next to the font (it means it's a true type font)
and you've got it installed.

if there is a question mark ?, then it's not installed.

Hi TAJ

This did not solve the problem.

Point of clarification: the bullet point is not being replaced with a
duplicate of the first character. The bullet is still there. Example:

PPT2000
- 3 hours
- Written Agreement

becomes in PPT2003
- 3 3 hours
- WWritten agreement

I had the PPT2000 presentation sent to me again with embedded fonts; made no
difference.

I do not seem to be missing any fonts. The text in question is in Arial.

I do notice that another font Arial Unicode MS appears in my font listing in
PPT2003, when this presentation is open. Does not have TT beside it. Does not
have a ? either - just blank in the TT column.

This font does not appear in my fonts under Control Panel_Fonts. Nor does it
appear when I start a blank presentationin PPT2003.

Weird science!
