Powerpoint 2000: Resize group of things?

I have a collection of line art and text boxes on a Powerpoint 2000
slide. I grouped everything into one aggregate object and tried
resizing it. Anyone who has tried it will realize that things don't
simply scale. Line segments don't scale, text fonts don't scale, and
text boxes lose their aspect ratio as a result of this. Is there a
way to scale an entire drawing on a powerpoint slide without
rasterizing it (i.e. keeping the distinct line art objects in the
picture)?

Try copy > paste special (as enhanced meta file) see if that works

Yes, it does, but converting it to enhanced meta file does a number on
the drawing. The text boxes (with edges turned on) become 2 explicit
superposed boxes and the text box edges itself become invisible.
Possibly, there's no way to avoid using explicit boxes because the
text box edges would no longer be in the right position (so it's a
good thing it was made invisible). It's a pretty good compromise.
Thanks!
