PowerPoint 2002

We recently purchased a computer through Dell this
past month. I am having problems with PowerPoint but it
doesn't do it 100% of the time. During the process of
working on a PowerPoint I try to change from a previous
slide to another one by selecting the slide on the left
side of the screen. The arrow icon comes up to select it
and then there is a pause and PowerPoint begins to
function at a very slow level. When it starts to think
and the time icon appears, it appears to freeze up. I
select the task manager to see if I can end the task and
in that window pane of task manager it says that the
program is not responding. After closing down the program
and reopening the same PowerPoint, it again does the same
thing freezing up and functioning slow.
I also am having trouble aftering saving my
PowerPoint to a 3.5 floppy disk and opening it on another
computer that also has the same upgrade of PowerPoint
(Microsoft PowerPoint 2002). After saving a powerpoint
to a 3.5 floppy disk and then transfering my disk to a
different computer to open it is causing problems. This
last time it happened I was able to open it a few times
on a different computer but when I tried to open up the
PowerPoint I was soon abrupted by an error that stated
that my disk was not formatted. The disk that I am using
is suppose to be formatted already (formatted for IBM and
compatibles; 1.44 MB). I thought that it possibly was due
to bad disks so I went out and bought new ones, but that
wasn't the problem.
These problems that are occuring are only with my
PowerPoint program. On that same disk that I was
describing above, I have word documents on there and I am
still able to open them but not able to open my
PowerPoints anymore. I never selected the computer to
format that disk being that it would erase all the data
on my disk. Hopefully you can find an end to this
problem. It is very frustrating, especially when you are
in college and use this program often for teaching.
Please respond back as soon as possible.

Thank you,

C. Trigg....

The first thing that springs to mind...when you mention floppy disks...is

"are you saving to the disk from powerpoint...and working with the file on
the floppy disk" ?

If so...this is a definate no no. It might be ok with microsoft word
etc....but powerpoint likes to write a few temp files and the like.

So...always save your files to your hard disk C:...work with them on
C:...then when you have finished editing them....use windows explorer (not
internet explorer) or my computer to copy them to the floppy disk (A:).

TAJ is exactly right about working directly from the floppy disk. That's
a no-no; you're just asking for trouble.

Re the pausing when selecting slides in the task pane, you might try
changing your hardware acceleration.

preview Updating your video drivers might also help.
