Powerpoint 2002

Capani

I am running XP using Powerpoint 2002.

I have created a PPT with some linked avi & .mpeg files. Pack & Go works fine
and I can open the presentation by excuting the PNGSETUP.EXE however
when selecting the Icon to play the video clip I recieve the message
"Media Player can not open this file.Either access to this file is
denied or the file is open by another application" The files all work fine in Windows Media Player

I have also tried to imbed the AVI
files into the PPT (ie not as a link) but this doesnt work either.

You have answered your own question unknowingly.

Windows Media Player is not Media Player. We have all wished a pox on
whomever made the decision to name these two programs so similarly.
PowerPoint 2002 uses Media Player to play the multimedia aspects of a
presentation (This changed with the release of PowerPoint 2003). Its
settings may be changed by other programs and this may render it unable to
play some media types. You will need to fix the MCI settings, back to where
they should be, in order to make these work. This FAQ explains the process
and reasons:

I have to add my 2 cents:

Rather than worry about your Windows Media Player not playing, why not
use the following inelegant technique:

1. Before you open PPT, open your Windows Media Player.

2. Shrink it and you should see it in your Task Bar ready to go.

3. Open and run your PPT Presentation.

4. When you reach the place in your presentation where you want to
show your movie, press ALT and while holding it down -- press your Tab
key. This will immediately take you to your open Windows Media
Player.

5. Run your Media files.

6. After you finish running your Media file, Press ALT and while
holding it down, press your Tab key. This will immediately take you
to where you left off in PPT.

7. Continue your PPT Presentation.

I've seen many presenters use this technique and they avoid problems.

Only a PPT power user would know what the Presenter did.
