I am able to insert a movie clip (thm file) into Powerpoint. Do I need to
convert to an avi file by rnaming it? I can play the video with Windows Media
Player with no problem. When I run the slide show, a black box appears over
the video and nothiing plays. this is very frustrating. Can anyone help? I
have a very important presentation to put together. thanks so much.

Just renaming the file won't help. Are you on a Mac or Windows? On a Mac,
you should be able to play it if it is in AVI or QuickTime format. Windows
prefers AVI. However, you need something to convert the file to the other
format (not just renaming). Another possibility is to set up a hyperlink to
the file. It is not as smooth as having it on the slide itself, but it
should work and have the file play in Windows Media Player.

You seem to have fallen in the Mac PowerPoint group, not the Windows group.
You can search the Web to see if you can find software to do the
conversion. There are several programs that convert from one video format
to another.

To link, just create a button or some text, highlight, and choose Hyperlink
from the Insert menu. Choose on the far left to link to Another file or web
page, and then locate the file. A click on the object or text (in slide
show view) should now open the file.
