PowerPoint 2003 freezes when saving files into an offline folder

When saving powerpoint presentation to an offline folder,
Powerpoint freeze forever. It can't even be killed
by "End task". When this happens, the whole computer stop
responding as well. CPU was stay at 100%. Even task
manager can't load. Explorer windows all locked up.
logging off and shutting down computer not working.
Nothing works and nothing you can do when this happens.
The only thing I can do is to hold the power button to
force it off. I'm using a Dell Latitude D600, OEM Windows
XP professional updated to SP2. This happens before
updating to SP2. And never happened in Powerpoint 2002.

It is best to ALWAYS work PowerPoint files from the local HDD; far, far away
from a network. If the file that you want to work on is stored on the
network, than use explorer to copy the file to the HDD first, then open it
from the HDD. When done, over-write the original, again using explorer.

Basic reason is that PowerPoint presentations do a lot of touchy-feely
things with it's source file while the presentation is open. This can swamp
even the hardiest of network connections. This is not new, it has always
been.

Try working off of a local copy of the PPT file and see if that does not
resolve your difficulty.
