PowerPoint 2003 - Spool size increases dramatically when printing

Help. I'm new to Office 03 and don't know if this is an '03 issue or maybe
something wrong with my printer drivers.

When I print a file that is say 700kb in size to a HP color printer, it
spools at 10MB or more and takes forever to print. I have tried this with
several files, and it happens each time.

I sent the same files to a friend who has Office 07 and she didn't have this
problem. Any suggestions????

Do you have gradients, transparencies, or transparent gradients in the file?

Spool files are usually fairly raw bitmap type data dumps with a single
layer for each layer of transparency. If you have a gradient transparency
or overlapping transparency settings, you can end up with rather large spool
files. It is the nature of the file type, not really PowerPoint.

You could try exporting the slides as a flat image type (JPG, PNG, etc),
then print the flat image files. This will usually create much smaller
files (since it is only printing a single layer), but may also reduce the
sharpness of the text a bit (depending on how the slides are exported).
