PowerPoint 2003 TextBox/AutoShape Defaults

Hello,

I have been trying to set the default formatting for a textbox in
PowerPoint 2003 for Windows. When I select a TextBox I have which is
formatted th way I want, I right click > Format Text Box, which brings
up he Format Text Box dialog. At the bottom I check "Default for new
objects". This does not work. I have also tried right click > Set
AutoShape Defaults. This does not appear to work either.

Could anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong, or how to fix this
issue? It would be greatly appreciated.

If you've formatted the text the way you want, right-click and Set Autoshapes
Default should do it.

Then you want to make an actual autoshape (rectangle, oval) with appropriate
line and fill and right-click Set Autoshape Default again.

If you need a textbox with a line or fill, you'll need to use the autoshape
rectangle and then start typing, because the autoshape textboxes don't keep
the fill and border colors when you set the defaults.

(Did that last sentence even make sense?)
