PowerPoint 2004 Crashes! Need Help!

P

Peter LaMotte

I cannot open a particular PowerPoint file that I NEED. I know the file was
created on a PC. The file can be seen in the preview within a Mac folder, and
within the PowerPoint open menu preview window. In fact when you open
the file, the thumbnail windows appear, then the whole application just
crashes.

But here is the pain, I sent it to a friend who has PowerPoint in Office X, and
it worked fine. I deleted the prefs, and it crashed then as well. I am not
sure whatelse I can do.

- Any ideas?

Hi Peter,

It could be a bad slide, or maybe some corruption of a picture on a
slide, or something else.

Try making a new presentation. The use Insert>Slides From File and
choose half the slides at a time. The object is to isolate the bad slide
(assuming there is one). Keep adding half of the remaining slides until
you've isolated the bad one.

I have found a weird workaround. I open my PPT slides in Apple's Keynote
and export it as a PPT presenation and then I can open it in the current
version of PPT on Mac. Of course, this means you have to have Keynonte,
but like you, I need the slides as they are crucial.

Hi Bill,

Assuming you ran disk utility and repaired permissions and that you
checked your hard drive using DiskWarrior, you might consider running
the office uninstaller that came with Office. Then do a re-install.
Dragging to the trash will not suffice. Use the uninstaller provided.
