Powerpoint 2007 - Accessing the Master Layout

JFQuestion

Once in Slide Master, I wanted to be able to edit the footer. However "Master
Layout" is greyed out and hence I can't select the Footers box. In fact, the
only thing I am able to edit is the Master Title. Any ideas? When I opened
the same file in Powerpoint 2003 (on another computer) I was able to access
to Master Layout, but I can't seem to edit it in 2007. Is this an issue with
users using different versions of Powerpoint? Thanks.

Masters behave *very* differently between the two versions, to the point where
expecting two sets of users, one on 2003 and the other on 2007, to use the same
template is the software equivalent of pointing your Uzi at your foot and
pulling the trigger. You might not get hurt, but no sane bettin' man is going
to put money on it.

Normally, you can edit the footer on the slide master or on any of the layouts
beneath it. It sounds as if something's changed the defaults. Instead of
editing the layout that the current slide's based on, click on the slide master
at the top and see if you can edit the footer there.
