Powerpoint 2007 and Type 1 fonts - size limitation

V

Val

(I asked this in the powerpoint newgroup a few days ago, got no response.)

When I use any of my Postscript Type 1 fonts in PPT 2007 on a Vista machine,
the will not display correctly above 65.5points size.

What happens is that the text will have all the characters piled up on top
of each other, and the whole mess raised above the baseline. If the
selected text is made smaller than/equal to 65.5 points, it displays fine
again. If it's changed to a TrueType font, it displays fine in any size.

The Type 1 fonts work fine in Word 2007 at any size. They work fine in PPT
2003 on my XP machine in any size.

I've installed the Type 1 fonts directly though Vista's control panel fonts
tool, I'm not using ATM or other font managers.

Anyone else experience this?

Odd. I don't recall seeing this in the PPT group. Wonder if we're having
issues with posts not showing up?

Anyway, try installing a Windows certified printer driver locally on the
machine. PPT 2007 is really picky about the printer drivers, and stuff
piling up/odd display issues are one typical symptom.

Here's instrux for adding a local printer driver:
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00605.htm (The drivers that ship with Vista will be
Vista-certified.)

I have printers installed. Two actual printers are network shared from
other PCs - one uses the Vista provided driver (LaserJet III) and other uses
the newer HP Universal Driver (HP Inkjet 2230 HPA. The Vista driver for
this printer seems not to work on a network share!?) Also have PrimoPDF
installed.

I installed a new, local printer as a dummy, set it as default, rebooted,
and the problem persists.

Next thought?

Nuts. I was hoping the local driver set as default would do the trick. Was
the local driver a postscript driver?

Let me see what I can come up with.

PPT 2007 on Vista. I know you said any of your postscript type 1 fonts, but
could you give me names of a couple of common ones you're seeing the
behavior with so I can play with them here and see if it repros?

Hi, Val,

Thanks for that info.

One of the other PPT MVPs responded in the PPT group that he can repro and
has filed a bug report. I'm sorry we don't have a fix for you, though.
