PowerPoint 2007 backwards compatibility issue

I'm trying to figure out some issues relating to a relatively simple
presentation my son did for a 5th grade project. I have a new Dell Inspiron
fairly loaded with Vista Home Pro and Outlook 2007. All updates available
downloaded and installed. There are issues in that the computers at his
school can't run the presentations even though we save them as presentations
or shows in the Powerpoint 97-2003 format. These systems are XP Pro with
Office 2003.

First step was a simple presentation - slides with bulleted points and this
was accessable by the school systems when saved in a 97-2003 format. Then he
added fly-ins and sounds to the bullets and again saved it as a 97-2003
Presentation. The file now won't open saying there is some error in relating
to text conversion. So, I saved it as a 97-2003 show. When they try to
access that, the error states that there are 0 slides in the show. And, I
tried a 2007 show file and that won't run at all. I didn't any detailed info
from my 11 year old on that one. All these files are ok on another computer
in my house running XP Pro and the Office 2007 Beta. I don't have any older
running versions of Office handy. Any ideas?

We are using a DVD-RW to shuttle the files around and get no media related
warnings or errors.

TIA.
