Powerpoint 2007 breaks the MPEG4 codec

Dan

Hello...

We've noticed that when you install the full retail version of Office 2007
it seems to partially break the MPEG4 codec, so that any media encoded in
this format will still work in WM11 but NOT in any MPEG4 videos inserted into
PowerPoint 2007. They play sound but no pictures. I had to download the MPEG4
codecs and reinstall. They would then overwrite a newer file and video files
can once again play in Powerpoint.

Anyone else noticed this?

Surely it's a bug?

Thanks

Dan

I'm actually surprised that MPEG4s play in PPT at all, as MPEG4/MOV is not
supported by the MCI Media Player, which is what PPT uses to handle video.
How are you inserting them?

It could also be an issue with other conflicting software. See
http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm (and add Serif Movie+ 4 as a
known conflict). I'd just get PFCMedia (http://www.pfcmedia.com), let it
convert the file to a more standard WMV format, and be done with it --
unless, of course, the reason it's MPEG4 is for Mac compatibility.

As Bob mentioned, you may want to post this in the PowerPoint group itself.
