PowerPoint 2007 crashes

R

R Eid

Every time I try to exit PPT 2007, it says it has stopped working and then
restarts. Office Diagnostics even ran one time and said it fixed one
"installation problem", but the problem has continued. I have a local
default HP Officejet Pro L7700 Series printer and driver installed, so it is
not the issue listed in http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00605.htm

Does anyone have any ideas?

Instead of the OfficeJet, could you try the printer driver used in the
tutorial on that FAQ? Just in case.

The other thing I can think of is add-ins. If go to Office Button | PPT
Options | Add-ins, do you have any listed there?

R

The only Active Application Add-in:
Business Contact Manager for Outlook

Inactive Application Add-ins:
Custom XML Data
Invisible On-Slide Content
Off-Slide Content
Presentation Notes

Why should I change to a default printer that doesn't exist?

The inactive add-ins all ship with PPT, and they're okay. They shouldn't be
the problem.

As a test, I'd disable the BCM for Outlook and see if that makes a
difference.

You should change the default printer driver to a printer that doesn't exist
also as a test -- PPT has issues with a number of printer drivers, so this
is a way to see if it's an issue with your particular printer driver or not
since the driver in that FAQ is pretty generic and seems to solve PPT
printer driver issues for a number of users. Just humor me.

Echo,
I am having the same problem with PowerPoint & Word that is related to the
HP printer driver. I have tested it by going the default printer route and it
solves the problem.

My questions regarding your recommended solution are:
1. How do you print what you need to print if you set up a fictitious
printer and set that as the default? Are you assuming that all PowerPoint
users are simply developing presentations and have no need to print?
2. Has HP or Microsoft ever come out with drivers/updates to solve this
problem? It is VERY widespread and annoying - although it seems to cause no
problems other than annoyance at the time of exiting the program.

Echo,
Yes it is annoying and it has been going on for quite a while (over a
year?). I just do not understand why HP and Microsoft cannot resolve a
problem that other printer manufacturers don't have. I may have bought my
last HP printer if they cannot furnish better customer service than this (and
this is at least the 6th HP printer I have bought over the years).
Thanks for your responses and thanks for identifying what is causing the
problem.
