PowerPoint 2007 hang up after install office SP2

after I install office SP2, my powerpoint always hang up when the file has
chart or graph.
did anyone know how to fix this problem?

SP2 works fine for me. Do you get any error message? Please post exact error
message here.

One option would be to uninstall the Service Pack 2. (It comes with an
uninstall routine, see Control Panel.)

Or tell us a bit more: Are those charts re-used from older office versions
or freshly created in PowerPoint 2007? Do they have many data points? Does
this happen with ALL charts in ALL presentations?

I try to create a new ppt file and create one chart only with a few data
(just around ten record). when I did some work on this chart, for example,
right click the chart, update the data, change some words, etc...
after I did this kind of action for let say 2-3 minutes, the ppt will hang
up...

We're seeing the exact same problem. New (blank) PP file, copy & past an
Excel 2007 chart, and then moving , editing, etc. - within a few minutes, the
application hangs. Need to end task to get out.

So, exact same problem - PP hangs within a few minutes when working with
charts.

Uninstalled SP2 through Add/Remove programs. Same problem. Interesting
note though, is that even though I rebooted per the prompt, version info
still showed SP2.

Doing a KB Search , I found the Office 2007 Uninstall tool:

Running this tools, I had 19 more patches for SP2. While obviously not all
of them were for Powerpoint, I removed them all, rebooted, and tried again.
My files seem to work fine.

Just wanted to post an update - not sure yet if it's SP2, or one of the
subsequent patches, but will reinstall SP2 and see what happens. Figured I
post my progress...

It definately seems to be a SP2 issue. To summarize, this is what I found.

Powerpoint file with charts lock up when accessing chart - doesn't matter
what, moving, resizing, or changing chart types, colors, etc. I've got a
couple files in particular that just moving the chart box a couple times will
consistently hang powerpoint.

Add/Remove programs, and uninstall Office 2007 SP2, then Rebooted:
-- Powerpoint was still hanging. Checked version - still showed SP2,
even though SP2 was no longer listed in Add/Remove programs.

Used MS SP2 removal utility to completely remove SP2, rebooted:
-- App works correctly - no hangs after 5+ minutes

Reinstalled SP2 - no additional patches:
-- App hangs again accessing charts

Removed SP2 with tool -- All ok again.

Would there be a better place to post this information so that MS can
address this bug???

I can be contacted directly using srstuart on hotmail.

I can reproduce the problem on XP (SP2 & SP3) machines, as well as Vista
w/SP2.

The charts have all been created with Excel 2007, and added to the PPTX
files via copy & paste from Excel. I do believe the Excel files have been
saved as 2003 formats, but that may not always be the case. All the
Powerpoint is native 2007 format, or even a new unsaved file.

I’ve got an example for you as well – a single slide – just moving the chart
once or twice should reproduce the problem for you. I’m not seeing an option
to attach a file to this thread, so I’ll send it directly to you.

I also have users in my office complaining of the same symtoms, we
uninstalled SP2 for office and it worked fine.

my users have xp and we have also tried on the new version of windows7 with

May be it is the oart.dll in sp2 or later.
Now i use oart.dll from february 2009 together with sp2, and now power point
is fine.

I'm an IT for a company that works in the Media business, so a lot of
charts and graphs in powerpoint. Ever since we installed Office 2007
(Sp1 and then latter SP2) it constantly hangs PP files. We use XP with
SP3, and have all updates. ALL users have the same problem! It's not a
particular graph or a particular file, it's random. Sometimes we can
make changes in a graph, sometimes we can't. But the crashes can reach
to 50-100 per working day... it's not tolerable at all.

Same problem here. It hangs if you use the arrow keys a number of times to
edit a pie chart.

System: Windows Vista Business and Office Enterprise 2007 with SP2
