PowerPoint 2007 - Slide Show - Right-Click menu doesn't function

B

Brian Eshelman

My company is using PowerPoint 2007. Some of our users are having issues
when using the Right-Click menu in slide show mode in that the menu will
display but none of the menu items "Function" when clicked on.

Personally I know so many other ways to move through the slide show but
these users are stuck in old ways. It is also an issue in it's own right
that the items just aren't working and they should. Has anyone else had this
type of issue?

Hi,

haven't experienced any problems myself. What platform? Has anyone tried a
detect and repair on a machine displaying this problem?

Hi Brian

Yes, I can recreate the issue here - that is the 'next' and 'previous' do
not work but all other options like 'pointer options' and 'go to slide' do
(on a Vista & 2007 machine). Running diagnostics didn't fix it for me.

Do your users just want the next & previous to work? If so a temporary
solution would be office button -> powerpoint options -> advanced -> slide
show -> untick show menu on right mouse click then right click will take them
to the previous slide and left click will take them to the next slide.

I'll keep trying for a proper solution. Glen, have you got 2007 running on
XP or Vista?

The computers in question are running PowerPoint 2007 on Windows XP and
Vista, so it is not OS specific. A detect and repair - Uninstall / reinstall
- ensuring all Windows/Office updates are in place have all been done. It
happens for both PPT2003 (PPT) and PPT2007 (PPTX) presentations on the
affected machines so it appears to be Application not file type related.
Additionally, the machines are in different departments so it is difficult to
narrow it down to a specific application conflict (conflicting DLL) that
might be heppening.

Thanks for helping me look through this one.......

Hi Brian

Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you absolutely positively sure
you can recreate the problem on an XP machine? John & Glen's responses make
me think this is a Vista problem but I don't currently have 2007 on my XP
machine to check. Also a 2007 created file is fine for me on my 2003/XP
machine, but a 2003 created file displays the issue on my 2007/Vista box.

'Last viewed' works for me so your users could use that instead of
'previous' as a work around until we figure out what the issue is. I know
that's not ideal but it would at least get them up & running.

Hi Lucy;

I appreciate all of you looking at this for me. I can say 100% that this is
happening on an XP / Off 2007 computer. We have not moved to Vista as a
standard OS; I am running vista however and was able to recreate the problem
on my computer. Unfortunatelly one of the people who is having the issue is
our VP of Quality Assurance and sees it as an issue. :)

I will see what more information I can provide.........

Hi Brian

I haven't installed 2007 on my XP machine yet but plan to this weekend. Once
I've done that I'll do some more testing and see if I can recreate on the XP
box. And we'll take it from there.

Lucy;

You might find this VERY INTERESTING. On the Microsoft Office site there is
a "Try it on line" Citrix environment (
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101687261033.aspx ). When you
launch PowerPoint 2007 and create a NEW presentation form one of the provided
templates you encounter the same situation with the "Next Slide" - "Previous
Slide" items. The Citrix environment is running Office 2007 on Windows XP.
So, on their own installation (not a dirty computer) the same thing can be
recreated..

Lucy - Thank you for the update.....

(On a side note related to EXCEL - they didn't fix the bug where the file
doesn't display right away when opening from a double-click on the file icon.
We still have to click minimize and watch the application pop right back up
with the file then displayed........... This is more for the EXCEL forum)
