PowerPoint 2007 - Style table placeholder?

Hi, I'm trying to create a PowerPoint 2007 template and know about the Slide
Master and creating custom designs. And I've placed different placeholders
around, but I can't seem to be able to style how a table looks when it's
created? I mean, I insert a table placeholder, but the placeholder itself
doesn't have the same properties as the table does when it's created. I guess
the placeholder is just that, a placeholder. And it quite frankly doesn't
know it's going to become a table once the user has clicked the placeholder.

So, if I can't style the placeholder itself, can I create a macro which
"listens" to the things the user does, making sure that once the user inserts
a table, the macro kicks in, choosing the design automatically? Cause I've
found some precreated styles for the tables which sooths the design quite
nicely. It's just that the default style that's applied when creating the
table that's a bit off. I quite I can right click on the style and choose
"make default", but the styles doesn't seem to work the same way as in Word.
I can't modify the style at all! Why? How can I make sure the design is
applied immediatly once the user has clicked the placeholder and created the
table?

Kenny, add your own table style to your template and make it the default
table style. You are certainly going to find information on the internet
about how doing this (or maybe you already know in the meantime).

If one single default style is not enough for your problem (e.g. you want to
have different styles on different slide types) you could still go for the
VBA approach. As you propose, check if the user inserts a new shape, check if
it's an empty table, apply a (custom) table style. VBA offers everything you
need.
