Powerpoint 2007 to 2000 - hyperlinks

Ginnie

I created a presentation in Powerpoint 2007. The presentation has 445 slides
and many internal hyperlinks, no external hyperlinks. I saved it in the
format which is allegedly fully compatible with ppt 2000. However, when
opened in ppt 2000,none of the hyperlinks work. When you run the show, the
mouse becomes a little hand as if the text were a hyperlink, but nothing
happens when you click. I tried saving it as 2007, installing the
compatibility pack on the other computer, but still the hyperlinks do not
work. I just can't imagine why I don't already see this issue here. Anyone
have any ideas?

Internally, PPT 2003 and prior handle hyperlinks differently than PPT 2007.
There is a limit to the storage for links in those versions, so when you
save as 97-2003 format, your links that work in 2007, where there isn't such
a storage limit, may be lost.

Saving again as 2007 won't bring the links back.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926953/en-us (man, this KB article is just
about worthless.)

The workaround in prior versions was to break up the file or make your links
shorter -- in your case, you may want to break up the file. (To make links
shorter -- to take up less storage space -- you'd do things like shorten the
slide titles in the placeholders, etc.) Of course, that means you'll want to
go back to a previous version where all the links work.

Also see this for more information:

Looks like we need to add some PPT 2007 info there, eh?

Thanks for the information! I did try to use the code on the PPTools site,
but now that I review the series of events. I believe that I tried doing
that on the one that already was not working. I should have gone back to the
ppt2007 version and shortened it there! Believe it or not, one strange thing
that worked was that I emailed it to a friend who opened it in Open Office
and sent it back. THEN it worked! go figure!

Wow! Bizarre about Open Office. I might have to try to play around with some
broken link files and see if that works consistently.

Yeah, you never know. I have not used Open Office but have heard good things
about it. Wonder when we will all chuck ms office and just go for the free
one!

I believe that I have convinced the client that I created the Powerpoint for
to purchase Office 2007, so hopefully it will no longer be an issue!
