PowerPoint 2008 - cannot type spaces in text

Weird. On two occasions editing in a bullet list in PP, could not enter spaces in existing text. Other characters fine but as if space bar simply not functioning. Aluminum keyboard on aluminum 24" iMac, wired; OS 10.5.1.

Cure each time was to restart the OS.

Anyone with similar experience or cure?
